People often seek psychotherapy to solve problems, such as getting through a difficult life situation or to relieve themselves of negative emotions. Solving a problem, however, does not automatically bring purpose and happiness to our lives. I believe that all of the precious desires of life, such as peace, joy, and happiness, are already within us. So, it is not a matter of searching for and “finding” happiness. With mindful intentions, we can release our potentials and connect with the goodness in other people and life. Mindful intentions might include appreciating nature, experiencing our physical being, living in the moment, staying close to the heart, being with others, acts of kindness, expressing gratitude, helping others, becoming a better person, and connecting to goodness.
